Let's Talk About You
Take my reader survey and guide the direction of Other Interests
I’m on spring break with my kids on the Washington coast. I’m taking the week off, but wanted to send out a quick missive to ask you to fill out my reader survey:
For some reason, this link doesn’t seem to work if you’re reading this in the Substack app, but it does appear to work if you’re logging into the desktop site.
We had a warm and sunny Easter yesterday, and my kids enjoyed an unusually dry Easter egg hunt with their cousin. We have perfected the art of hunting for eggs in rainboots and raincoats because here in the Pacific Northwest, April is a damp month. I enjoyed the sunshine with a tinge of climate anxiety. Today the sky is back to being overcast, our usual Washington weather. I love a misty beach. It makes me nostalgic for the foggy coastal town I grew up in. I wrote more about that here, and about climate grief, in one of my first posts for Other Interests:
My subscriber base has grown exponentially since I started Other Interests with the intention of writing personal essays like the one linked above. After spending more than a decade neglecting my literary roots and focusing solely on my therapy career, I wanted to write about topics other than psychology. I was interested in writing the kind of personal essays I wrote in my twenties before I quit publishing and started social work school.
Since writing my series debunking pop psychology books, I’ve been writing more therapy content on Other Interests. I started my monthly Ask a Therapist column answering reader’s questions, shared a guide to finding a therapist, wrote a series clarifying what trauma is (and isn’t), and did my recent trauma book roundup. I love writing this kind of service journalism as well and feel the world really needs to hear from mental health professionals who are questioning and pushing back on dominant pseudoscientific paradigms.
I’m curious to hear from all of you about what drew you to Other Interests and what you want to read more of. I purposely kept this survey very short to make it quick and easy for readers to fill out. I would be so grateful if you would take a few minutes to tell me more about yourself:
Thank you for reading and supporting Other Interests! I look forward to sharing the results of the survey with you soon.

Is the reader survey only for paid subscribers? I clicked on it but didn't get anywhere.
